An established accountancy practice is looking to appoint an Accounts Senior to join its Manchester team on a permanent, full-time basis. This is a varied role involving responsibility for a portfolio of owner-managed businesses across a range of sectors. You will prepare and review year-end accounts, management accounts, VAT returns and tax computations while acting as a key point of contact for clients.
The position would suit an experienced practice accountant or accounts senior who can manage assignments from initial records through to completion, resolve queries directly with clients and support the development of junior colleagues.
THE ACCOUNTS SENIOR ROLE
- Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Managing accounts assignments from the planning stage through to completion
- Producing corporation tax computations and company tax returns
- Preparing personal tax returns for individuals and business owners
- Producing monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
- Reviewing bookkeeping records and resolving errors or discrepancies
- Reviewing work completed by junior members of the team
- Providing clear feedback and practical support to trainees and less experienced colleagues
- Managing a portfolio of clients and monitoring upcoming deadlines
- Acting as a regular point of contact for clients
- Responding to accounting, tax and general business queries
- Identifying issues within client records and discussing these with the appropriate manager or partner
- Liaising with HMRC and responding to requests for information
- Maintaining accurate working papers and ensuring files meet the practice's quality standards
- Keeping managers and partners informed of assignment progress
- Helping to improve internal processes and working practices
THE PERSON
- Have recent experience working in an accounts role within an accountancy practice
- Be AAT qualified, ACA/ACCA part-qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience
- Have experience preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Be able to manage accounts assignments with limited supervision
- Have experience preparing corporation tax computations and personal tax returns
- Be confident producing management accounts and VAT returns
- Have experience reviewing the work of junior colleagues or be ready to take on this responsibility
- Be comfortable managing a portfolio of clients and competing deadlines
- Have excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Communicate clearly and confidently with clients and colleagues
- Be able to identify and resolve accounting queries using their own initiative
- Have experience using accountancy software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
- Knowledge of accounts production and tax software would be beneficial
