We are seeking an experienced Service Designer to join a major public sector digital transformation programme focused on the design and delivery of a high-profile mobile application.
Working within a multidisciplinary agile team, you will help design end-to-end services that meet user needs while aligning with GOV.UK Service Standards and Government Digital Service (GDS) best practice.
Role Details

Key Responsibilities
- Lead service design activities across the full service lifecycle
- Create and maintain service blueprints, user journeys and service maps
- Facilitate workshops with business stakeholders and delivery teams
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, User Researchers, Content Designers, Business Analysts and Developers
- Use user research and data insights to inform service improvements
- Identify pain points, opportunities and service enhancements
- Ensure services are accessible, inclusive and user-centred
- Support delivery in line with GDS standards and assessments
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience working as a Service Designer
- Strong GDS experience delivering digital services within UK Government or wider public sector organisations
- Experience working through GDS service phases (Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live)
- Understanding of GOV.UK Service Standard and user-centred design principles
- Experience designing services for mobile applications
- Strong stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills
- Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to produce high-quality service design artefacts including journey maps, service blueprints and ecosystem maps
Desirable
- Experience of government service assessments
- Experience working within complex transformation programmes
- Familiarity with tools such as Miro, Figma, Jira and Confluence
Security Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be British Nationals
- Have a minimum of 5 years continuous UK residency
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain BPSS Clearance
