The role
We have a great opportunity to join our in-house Legal Services Team in a friendly and supportive environment.
You'll be providing high-quality legal advice and casework on housing disrepair and housing conditions matters, helping Southern Housing and its group partners resolve cases through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and litigation.
You'll manage your own caseload of complex disrepair claims, working closely with Disrepair Paralegals and key operational stakeholders across the business.
You'll be involved in preparing legal documentation, advising on repairing obligations and housing legislation, negotiating settlements, delivering legal training and supporting colleagues on housing disrepair matters.
You'll also supervise and develop Disrepair Paralegals, provide technical guidance across the service and help drive continuous improvement within the team.
This role is based at either Farringdon or Croydon, with the option for hybrid working when appropriate and agreed with your manager.
What you'll need:
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) with a current practising certificate (essential).
Significant experience of housing disrepair and housing conditions litigation (essential).
ADR experience is desirable.
A thorough understanding of landlord and tenant law and housing disrepair claims.
Experience of managing complex claims from the pre-action stage through to resolution
Strong advocacy, drafting and stakeholder management skills.
Experience of supervising and supporting junior lawyers and/or paralegals.
Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Experience of working with social housing providers, local authorities or public sector organisations (desirable).
