About the Role
This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground, rare opportunity to shape the future of a fast-growing, award-winning business. As Operations Controller, you'll take the reins of field operations across the UK. It's a hands-on senior role that will take you out to live construction sites nationwide, leading teams of subcontractors and employees, driving standards, and turning a bold idea into a national success story. Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Lead and manage national field operations teams to ensure consistent delivery of offloading and positioning services. Monitor KPIs and service standards to ensure all operations align with agreed SLAs and health and safety standards. Conduct regular site visits to ensure quality, compliance and team performance. Liaise with Regional Managers to support local team effectiveness and client satisfaction.
- Logistics and Planning: Collaborate with the customer service and planning teams to schedule offloads, installations and resources efficiently. Support the generation of logistics data to assist with client quotes and project scoping. Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks quickly to maintain project timelines.
- Client Engagement and Satisfaction: Work closely with clients and site personnel to ensure expectations are met or exceeded. Be the point of escalation for complex client issues and ensure swift resolution. Attend project launch meetings and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead, motivate and mentor teams of subcontractors and employees to uphold the company's reputation for reliability and service excellence. Work with HR and the Senior Leadership Team to define training needs and upskill operational staff where necessary. Support a collaborative working culture across all functions and regions.
- Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement: Anticipate and resolve project or operational challenges with a hands-on approach. Implement a continuous improvement mindset across all operational and installation activities. Develop systems for feedback, reporting and performance analysis.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Valid CSCS card.
- A sound grounding in construction / general site working.
- Proven experience in field operations or logistics at a national level.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Strong leadership and team-building ability, including managing subcontractors and employees in fast-paced environments.
- Comfortable working with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Be comfortable with staying away from home.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable:
- Experience in installation and assembly services in a similar industry (e.g. FF&E, KBB, interiors, fit-out).
- Experience working in offloading / positioning or installation-heavy environments.
- Knowledge of construction site protocols and health and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with CRM and project management tools.
