This is a rare opportunity to build something of your own. As Head of Structural Engineering, you will define the direction, standards and delivery model for a new structural engineering service line at SRVO, shaping everything from strategy and capability to systems and go-to-market positioning.

You will join a growing multidisciplinary service provider and establish a high-performing Structural Engineering Division that complements our building surveying, project and consultancy services. Reporting to the CEO, you will set the technical agenda, win and deliver complex work, and progressively build and mentor a best-in-class team.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

You will split your time between leading technical delivery on key projects, developing methodology and QA frameworks, and building trusted client relationships that convert into sustainable revenue. You will create the operating model, tools and templates for scalable delivery while coaching engineers and collaborating closely with our surveying and project teams.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • A clear, scalable service blueprint with robust design standards, QA procedures and risk controls embedded across the division.
  • A healthy, growing pipeline with repeat clients and profitable, well-managed projects delivered to programme and budget.
  • A credible technical profile for SRVO in the market, demonstrated through thought leadership, bids won and client references.
  • A cohesive, motivated team with strong utilisation, low rework rates and a visible culture of safety, quality and accountability.
  • Seamless collaboration with surveying and project management teams, improving project outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Data-led performance reporting in place, with KPIs tracked and actioned to continuously improve delivery and margin.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

  • Leading and reviewing structural designs, calculations, reports and technical submissions for refurbishment and new-build projects.
  • Scoping, pricing and winning work; preparing proposals, leading client meetings and supporting framework/bid responses.
  • Establishing delivery processes, standards, design libraries, templates and digital toolsets for efficient, consistent output.
  • Providing technical oversight, design assurance and CDM-aligned risk management across live projects.
  • Hiring, onboarding and mentoring engineers; setting objectives, conducting reviews and driving capability development.
  • Coordinating with surveying, project management and cost teams to plan programmes, resolve issues and protect project outcomes.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

  • A pragmatic builder of teams and services who enjoys creating structure, process and momentum from a blank sheet.
  • A commercially aware technical leader who balances engineering rigour with programme, cost and client priorities.
  • A clear communicator who can translate complexity into practical solutions for clients and colleagues.
  • A collaborative partner who values multidisciplinary input and thrives in a growing, agile environment.
  • A safety-first decision maker who champions compliance, constructability and long-term asset resilience.

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Leading structural engineering delivery on complex residential and commercial assets, including refurbishment of existing structures.
  • Setting up or scaling a service line, practice or regional team, including resource planning and budget oversight.
  • Hands-on experience with structural analysis and design software, model coordination and digital QA workflows.
  • Front-end engagement: surveys, feasibility studies, options appraisals and early-stage risk/constructability advice.
  • Navigating UK regulatory frameworks, CDM duties, building safety requirements and stakeholder interfaces.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary aligned to experience
  • Discretionary bonus
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Remote and flexible working
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance and enhanced family leave
  • Fully funded training and professional development
  • Pension scheme and employee assistance programme
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Discounts across travel, retail, fitness and entertainment
