JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Head Housekeeper / Cleaning Supervisor who has extensive housekeeping / cleaning / room attendant experience and proven supervisory / leadership / staff management skills. Working as the Head Housekeeper / Cleaning Supervisor you will ensure that the hotel's cleanliness standards are consistently maintained and that the team is managed effectively to provide an exceptional guest experience. As the Head Housekeeper / Cleaning Supervisor you will be responsible for overseeing the housekeeping department, ensuring that all guest rooms and public areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness, comfort, and service. This role involves supervising housekeeping staff, managing inventory, coordinating schedules, and handling administrative tasks, all while maintaining a positive and efficient work environment.

DUTIES

  • Supervise the Housekeeping Team: Manage, motivate and support housekeepers and room attendants to maintain consistent cleaning and service standards
  • Allocate Daily Work: Assign tasks, inspect completed work and ensure all housekeeping duties are carried out efficiently and to the required standard
  • Train and Support Staff: Provide induction training for new starters and ongoing guidance for existing team members on procedures, standards and hotel policies
  • Maintain Room Standards: Ensure guest rooms, bathrooms, public spaces and back-of-house areas are cleaned, sanitised and presented to a high standard
  • Carry out Inspections: Complete routine checks of rooms, common areas and facilities to monitor cleanliness, safety and overall presentation
  • Respond to Guest Feedback: Handle housekeeping-related comments, concerns and requests promptly, professionally and effectively
  • Manage Stock and Supplies: Oversee cleaning products, linens, guest amenities and housekeeping equipment, placing orders when required
  • Coordinate Staff Schedules: Plan rotas to support appropriate staffing levels during busy periods, including check-in, check-out and seasonal peaks
  • Monitor Attendance and Performance: Address absence, performance concerns and team issues constructively, while encouraging development and improvement
  • Work with Other Departments: Liaise with front desk, maintenance and management teams to support guest needs and ensure smooth hotel operations
  • Follow Health and Safety Standards: Ensure staff use cleaning chemicals, laundry processes and equipment safely and in line with sanitation requirements
  • Support Department Administration: Maintain housekeeping records, monitor budget information, review payroll details and prepare performance or guest satisfaction reports

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive experience in housekeeping, cleaning or room attendant work, with proven experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a hotel or large hospitality setting
  • Proven experience leading, motivating and managing a team
  • Excellent organisational, time management and multitasking skills
  • High standards of cleanliness, presentation and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal with guest concerns professionally and efficiently
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond promptly to staff or guest issues
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and motivated, with the ability to lead by example
