Overview of role: This role plays a central part in supporting the finance function, with a strong focus on payroll accuracy, financial processing, and cross-team collaboration. It involves managing and validating payroll data, ensuring journals are correctly prepared and posted across multiple entities, and supporting reporting through calculations such as 12-month average pay. The position also acts as a key contact for payroll queries, handling weekly purchasing card transactions, and provides flexible support across purchase and sales ledger activities when required. In addition, the role contributes to wider finance team operations, assisting during busy periods, supporting ad hoc projects, and maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures, making it a varied and hands-on role within a dynamic finance environment. This role requires the ability to work under pressure, to meet deadlines. It also requires the ability to engage and liaise successfully with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Input, verify, and process timesheets, holidays, absences, overtime, and other payroll variables prior to submission
  • Prepare and post payroll journals across multiple entities in line with the month-end timetable (ensure journals are accurately coded to the correct nominal codes, cost centres, and entities)
  • Prepare the 12-month average pay calculations for reporting
  • Acting as a point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees
  • Processing purchasing card transactions on a weekly basis & costing into MRI
  • Assisting with the Purchase and Sales Ledger when required for subsidiaries
  • Providing cover and support to the wider finance team when needed
  • To be involved in ad hoc projects and/or to complete any other task as reasonably requested by the finance department
  • These duties are not 'limited' or 'fixed' and you may be required to take on additional reasonable responsibilities, as our business needs change
  • Adherence to all company policies, procedures and work instructions as relevant

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a payroll administration role, ideally within a multi-entity environment (2+ years)
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, PAYE, NIC, auto-enrolment, and statutory payments
  • Experience of posting payroll journals and performing control account reconciliations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly on all levels both verbally and in writing
  • Accuracy & attention to detail, ability to process high volumes of data with precision
  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central is desirable but not essential

Essential: Ability to travel to office location with limited access to public transport.
