HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruiter within the Power & Propulsion, Shipbuilding, Shipping & Energy and Fire & Security sectors. We have a number of permanent and contract vacancies for multiple businesses across the UK and overseas.

Working as the Field Service Manager, you will lead a small team of globally travelling OEM Field Service Engineers alongside a workshop-based engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can manage people, customers and service delivery while still having the technical ability and willingness to get on the tools when required, either in the field or workshop. The successful candidate will focus on team development, customer service, Health & Safety, engineering standards and strong collaboration with other departments.

We are looking for:

  • A people-focused engineering leader who leads from the front.
  • Someone who is comfortable managing experienced engineers, dealing directly with customers and getting hands-on with equipment when required.
  • A strong communicator, commercially aware, safety focused and able to work effectively across different departments.
  • Someone who has progressed into management but still wants to remain close to the engineering.

Duties and responsibilities of the Field Service Manager:

  • Lead, manage, organise and develop the Field Service and workshop engineering teams.
  • Coordinate engineering resources across UK and international service requirements.
  • Ensure customer jobs are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
  • Support engineers with complex fault-finding, repairs, overhaul and service work.
  • Travel to customer sites when technical or leadership support is required.
  • Remain hands-on and capable of supporting workshop activities when needed.
  • Build strong customer relationships and act as a senior point of contact for service issues.
  • Champion Health & Safety across all field and workshop operations.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, workmanship and engineering discipline.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Projects, Operations, Sales and other departments.
  • Develop the team through coaching, training and clear performance expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement across field service and workshop operations.

Qualifications and requirements for the Field Service Manager:

  • Previous experience managing or leading Field Service Engineers or a similar engineering team.
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Experience within Marine, Oil & Gas, Mining, Rail or Heavy Engineering.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • A practical, hands-on engineering background.
  • Experience working directly with customers in service or maintenance environments.
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety within engineering operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple engineers, projects or customer requirements.
  • International field service experience would be highly advantageous.
