If you’re an experienced bookkeeper looking for a role with real challenge and progression potential to fit around other responsibilities, this Bookkeeping Manager role could be ideal. Reporting to the Director of this modern people-first finance consultancy, you’ll take ownership of their growing bookkeeping division. The business is selective about who they work with and only support clients who share their values of mutual respect and flexibility.
What’s in it for you?
- Remote working. Availability for occasional in-person meetings in London / Kent would be helpful but not essential.
- Flexibility. We’re looking for a minimum of 26 hours per week (about 3.5 days) but there’s real flexibility about when you work these hours, and the opportunity to work up to full-time if that’s what you’re looking for.
- Progression. If you’re driven to grow your skills and take on more responsibility, you’ll have both the support and opportunity to do so.
- Opportunity. Step-up to your first line management position; we’re open to people who haven’t held a formal line management role previously.
- Variety. Working with multiple clients, and with some exposure to finance director level projects.
As a Bookkeeping Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of the bookkeeping division, managing the two bookkeepers already on the team.
- Owning a small number of client relationships directly, as the primary point of contact, keeping them warm and commercially healthy.
- Hands-on bookkeeping work to deal with complex issues yourself when a deep dive is needed.
- Supporting the director with delegated pieces of fractional Finance Director project work.
- Keep month-end close running smoothly and consistently across client accounts, using and improving our checklists.
What we’re looking for in a Bookkeeping Manager:
- Solid bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally AAT qualified or partway through ACCA or CIMA.
- Confident and client-facing, genuinely comfortable owning a relationship rather than working heads-down behind a screen.
- Self-motivated, with the discipline to manage your own time and workload across several clients at once.
- Strong technical bookkeeping skills, able to diagnose and fix complex issues without handholding.
- Ambitious and growth-minded, keen to take on more responsibility and earning potential as the role and the business develop.
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Genuine curiosity about AI and new technology, with a real willingness to learn, adopt, and help shape AI-driven tools and processes as we introduce them. No previous AI experience is required.
- Prior experience in managing or coaching bookkeeping staff.
