An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Antenna & RF Design Engineer to join a growing international technology group developing advanced RF, microwave and antenna solutions for mission-critical applications across defence, aerospace, security, space, telecommunications and government sectors. The organisation is investing in a brand-new UK Research & Development capability that will focus on solving some of the most technically challenging RF and antenna engineering problems across a global portfolio of innovative products.
Working within a small team of highly experienced engineers, you will collaborate with international engineering teams and customers to develop next-generation RF systems, antenna technologies and integrated electronic solutions from concept through to production. This is a rare opportunity to work on genuinely cutting-edge RF and antenna developments including phased arrays, electronic warfare, SATCOM, direction finding and advanced RF systems, whilst helping to mentor and develop the next generation of engineers.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of advanced antenna and RF subsystem projects from concept through to production.
- Act as technical lead on complex engineering programmes, providing technical direction and mentoring junior engineers.
- Design RF and microwave circuits including filters, amplifiers, switches and associated subsystems.
- Develop antenna solutions across HF through to SHF frequency ranges for demanding applications.
- Carry out RF, antenna and system modelling using industry-standard simulation tools.
- Develop mixed-signal electronic systems incorporating RF, digital control and power subsystems.
- Produce technical proposals, system architectures and customer-facing engineering documentation.
- Oversee prototype manufacture, integration, laboratory testing and field measurements.
- Support product qualification including functional, environmental and EMC testing programmes.
- Collaborate closely with customers and international engineering teams to deliver innovative technical solutions.
- Present technical findings, reports and project updates to customers and senior stakeholders.
- Support technology development across future product roadmaps and emerging market opportunities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience designing RF and microwave systems, antenna products or RF subsystems within a commercial engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, RF engineering principles and antenna design.
- Experience leading engineering development projects from concept through to production.
- Experience using one or more RF simulation and modelling tools such as CST Studio Suite, HFSS, FEKO, Keysight ADS, Microwave Office or similar.
- Experience with RF testing, antenna measurements and product validation.
- Knowledge of EMC design principles and product qualification testing.
- Experience working directly with customers on technically challenging engineering projects.
- Strong technical documentation and report writing skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a hands-on engineering approach.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience within one or more of the following technology areas would be highly advantageous: RF & Microwave Engineering, Antenna Design, Active Antenna Systems, Electronic Warfare (EW), Direction Finding Systems, Defence Electronics, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Mixed Signal Electronics, RF System Modelling, Advanced Electronic Design.
