This is a key leadership role, responsible for driving best practice across Safety, Health, Environment and Quality, while embedding a proactive and compliant SHEQ culture throughout the business.
SHEQ Manager - Job Overview
The SHEQ Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality across operational activities.
The role focuses on ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, and internal policies, while promoting continuous improvement, risk awareness, and operational excellence.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving SHEQ systems, including driving and maintaining ISO accreditations (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), undertaking audits, investigating incidents, and working closely with teams across the business to embed SHEQ into day-to-day operations.
SHEQ Manager - Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and review SHEQ policies, procedures, and processes in line with current legislation and business requirements
- Lead and manage the achievement and maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 accreditations
- Conduct regular internal and site audits, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions
- Set, monitor, and report on SHEQ KPIs and performance indicators
- Define roles and responsibilities across departments to ensure accountability for SHEQ compliance
- Carry out risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing mitigation strategies
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures
- Maintain accurate SHEQ records and prepare reports for senior management
- Oversee SHEQ training and competency development across the workforce
- Stay up to date with legislation, best practice, and industry developments
- Collaborate with all departments to integrate SHEQ into operational planning and delivery
- Drive initiatives that improve safety performance, environmental sustainability, and quality standards
SHEQ Manager - Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Health, Safety Management, or similar discipline
- NEBOSH Construction qualification (essential)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a SHEQ management role, ideally within the construction industry
- Proven experience managing ISO audits and compliance
- Strong working knowledge of health & safety legislation, environmental law, and quality standards
- Valid CSCS Card
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- Analytical and methodical approach to performance monitoring and improvement
