An industry-leading specialist contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join one of the UK's largest and most prestigious infrastructure projects. Working within a collaborative alliance environment, you'll play a key commercial role supporting the delivery of complex geotechnical and heavy civil engineering works on a nationally significant clean energy programme.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Surveyor, you'll be responsible for the commercial management of major work packages, ensuring strong cost control, contractual compliance and accurate financial reporting. You'll also mentor junior Quantity Surveyors while working closely with operational and project teams to maximise commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
    • Manage the commercial performance of allocated work packages
    • Prepare cost reports, forecasts, CVRs and financial analysis
    • Monitor project budgets, cash flow and commercial performance
    • Ensure accurate valuation and payment processes
    • Provide commercial support to senior project stakeholders
  • Contract & Change Management
    • Administer NEC4 contracts throughout the project lifecycle
    • Manage Early Warnings, Compensation Events and change control
    • Maintain robust commercial records and supporting documentation
    • Provide contractual advice and commercial guidance to project teams
    • Support dispute avoidance and commercial risk management
  • Procurement & Supply Chain
    • Prepare subcontract enquiries and tender documentation
    • Evaluate subcontractor quotations and negotiate agreements
    • Manage subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account
    • Monitor supplier performance and commercial compliance
    • Drive value and best practice across the supply chain
  • Project Controls & Risk
    • Identify commercial risks and opportunities
    • Support programme reviews and commercial planning
    • Work closely with operational teams to improve project performance
    • Contribute to forecasting, reporting and cost management
    • Ensure commercial processes are followed across the project
  • Leadership
    • Mentor and support Quantity Surveyors within the team
    • Review commercial outputs and maintain high standards
    • Build strong relationships with clients, project teams and supply chain partners
    • Promote collaboration and continuous improvement across the commercial function

About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
  • Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
  • Experience administering NEC contracts (NEC4 highly desirable)
  • Excellent analytical and financial management skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Working towards or already chartered (RICS, CIOB or ICES)

Desirable

  • Experience within heavy civil engineering, geotechnical or piling projects
  • Alliance or collaborative contracting experience
  • Experience managing Compensation Events and Early Warnings
  • Knowledge of forecasting, CVRs and project cost reporting
