About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and inspirational leader to shape the future of sport and physical education at Huddersfield Grammar School. The Director of Sport will provide strategic and operational leadership for Physical Education, Games and the wider sporting provision across the school. The postholder will lead and manage the PE team, driving a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, participation and performance while ensuring that every pupil benefits from a high-quality sporting experience. The Director of Sport will be responsible for developing and delivering a clear vision for PE and Sport, overseeing curriculum and co-curricular provision, developing staff, strengthening pathways for participation and performance, and promoting sport as a central element of school life. The successful candidate will inspire pupils and colleagues alike, enhancing the school's sporting reputation while fostering positive attitudes towards health, wellbeing and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the PE, Games and Sport provision across the school.
  • Manage and inspire a high-performing PE department, driving excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the PE curriculum across all key stages, including GCSE PE.
  • Monitor pupil progress and departmental performance to drive continuous improvement.
  • Line manage, support and develop PE staff through coaching and professional development.
  • Lead and expand the school's co-curricular sports programme, including fixtures, competitions, tours and events.
  • Develop sporting pathways that encourage participation, talent development and high achievement.
  • Build strong partnerships with local clubs, schools and sporting organisations.
  • Teach PE and Sport across a range of ages and abilities, maintaining high standards of pupil achievement and behaviour.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through events, parental engagement and leadership activities.
