MTrec Technical are proudly representing our prestigious engineering client with the recruitment of a permanent Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen their current team. The Job You’ll Do:

  • Interpret client specifications, technical documents, and project requirements to develop robust design solutions.
  • Create and develop 3D models and 2D detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Apply principles of mechanical engineering to perform necessary calculations, such as stress analysis, material selection, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and health & safety regulations.
  • Liaise closely with the sales team to provide technical support during the tendering process.
  • Collaborate with the workshop and production teams to ensure designs are optimised for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Assist in the creation of technical documentation, including operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and processes.

About You:

  • HNC, HND, or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a mechanical design role, preferably within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • High proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks is highly preferred) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD).
  • A strong understanding of fundamental mechanical principles, materials science, and common manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, fabrication).
  • Experience creating detailed engineering drawings to recognised standards and a good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own workload and meet project deadlines.
