The Assistant Accountant will provide day-to-day financial support to the Finance department, helping to ensure accurate financial records and the smooth running of accounting operations.

Working closely with the wider finance team, you will assist with transactional finance, payroll administration, month-end reporting, budgeting activities, and financial analysis.

Duties of

Assistant

Accountant: Process supplier and customer transactions accurately, maintaining purchase and sales ledgers.

Reconcile supplier, customer and balance sheet accounts, resolving any discrepancies promptly.

Assist with weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring all information is accurate and submitted on time.

Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals and prepayments.

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring and variance analysis.

Prepare financial reports and provide ad hoc analysis to support business decisions.

Maintain accurate financial records, including the fixed asset register and accounting system.

Support year-end accounts, audits and statutory reporting requirements.

Liaise with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders to resolve finance queries.

Contribute to process improvements and undertake general finance administration as required.

Essential AAT qualified, part-qualified or currently studying towards AAT, CIMA, ACCA or ACA.

Candidates with relevant practical finance experience will also be considered.

Previous experience in a similar finance role.

Exposure to month-end accounting processes is desirable.

Experience using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, Sage, Quick Books or similar would be advantageous.

Skills and Competencies Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and data analysis.

Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.

Effective communication skills with confidence when dealing with colleagues, suppliers and customers.

A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
