The Role
We are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to support the installation, service, maintenance and repair of specialist purpose-built machinery. This is a varied and technically challenging position, working on equipment powered by diesel engines and electric motors, incorporating complex high-pressure hydraulic systems and electronic control systems. The role is primarily field-based, supporting customers across the UK. Applicants must be willing to travel and stay away from home when required. There will also be occasional opportunities for international travel.
Key Responsibilities of the Field Service Engineer
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing activities.
- Complete machinery upgrades, modifications and installations.
- Commission equipment and provide technical support to customers.
- Investigate equipment failures and implement effective solutions.
- Dismantle and repair malfunctioning equipment using specialist tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Complete accurate service reports and maintenance documentation.
- Build strong customer relationships and provide a professional service at all times.
- Maintain company tools and test equipment, ensuring they remain safe and fit for purpose.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A full UK Driving Licence.
- An Engineering qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Previous experience in a Field Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Technical Support Engineer position.
- Strong fault-finding experience on hydraulic systems and electrical circuits.
- Experience working independently at customer sites.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- The ability to complete detailed service documentation and reports.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- The physical capability to lift up to 40kg unassisted.
Highly Desirable Experience of the Field Service Engineer
The following skills would be a significant advantage:
- CAN Bus control systems.
- Hydraulic variable displacement pumps.
- Hydraulic logic control valves.
- Diesel-powered machinery.
- Special purpose or bespoke machinery.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
