We are currently recruiting for a Technical Superintendent with strong dry-docking experience to join a well-established and highly regarded maritime organisation based in Aberdeen. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the technical management of assigned vessels, with a particular focus on planning, preparing and delivering dry-docking projects. You will ensure that each vessel remains safe, compliant, operational and maintained to the required technical and regulatory standards.

Duties and responsibilities of the Technical Superintendent:

  • Plan and manage vessel dry dockings from the initial scope of work and budget stage through to completion, sea trials and return to service.
  • Develop detailed dry-docking specifications, work packages, project schedules and cost estimates.
  • Liaise with shipyards, contractors, suppliers, class societies, flag authorities and internal stakeholders throughout each docking project.
  • Attend vessels and shipyards to oversee repairs, inspections, surveys, modifications and planned maintenance activities.
  • Monitor dry-docking progress, expenditure, quality and timescales, ensuring that any technical or commercial issues are addressed quickly.
  • Manage technical budgets for assigned vessels and ensure expenditure is properly controlled and reported.
  • Ensure planned vessel inspections are completed and vessels are fully prepared for class, flag and statutory surveys.
  • Oversee mechanical, electrical and navigational equipment repairs, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Provide practical technical support to vessel crews and shore-based teams, including fault-finding and the resolution of operational issues.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, industry regulations and the required safety and quality standards.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Previous shoreside experience as a Technical Superintendent, Dry Docking Superintendent, Project Superintendent or in a similar technical vessel-management role.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience of planning and delivering vessel dry dockings, major refits, repairs or conversion projects.
  • A seagoing engineering background to Second Engineer or Chief Engineer level would be advantageous; however, candidates with extensive ship repair or shipyard experience will also be considered.
  • Good knowledge of vessel mechanical and electrical systems, planned maintenance, class requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Additional electrical engineering experience and the ability to interpret electrical drawings would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including experience managing project budgets, contractors and suppliers.
  • A practical problem-solver who can make effective decisions in demanding, time-sensitive environments.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and report-writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel to vessels and shipyards when required.
