Bennett and Game are currently representing an award-winning contractor based in Fleet, who are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor ready to take the next step in their career to join their growing team. Established for over 20 years, our client has a team of approximately 25 staff and an annual turnover of around £40 million.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to take greater ownership of projects and progress into a senior position within an established and supportive business. The successful candidate will have significant responsibility across the commercial management of projects, working with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
The role will involve a range of projects across the UK, including working closely with leading supermarket chains to install EV charging points, main store extensions, restaurants, and petrol stations to make it more accessible, reliable and convenient for their customers. The successful candidate will be expected to manage projects commercially from pre-construction through to final account, with the opportunity to develop into a senior position within the business.
Job Overview
- Take full commercial responsibility for allocated projects from pre-construction through to completion.
- Prepare and manage cost plans, budgets, forecasts and financial reports.
- Carry out detailed take-offs, measurements and pricing from drawings, specifications and project information.
- Prepare and manage Schedules of Works and Bills of Quantities.
- Obtain, assess and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs and financial performance, identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Prepare and manage variations, valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
- Work closely with the project and site teams to ensure projects remain commercially and operationally on track.
- Liaise directly with clients and consultants, building strong working relationships and supporting commercial negotiations.
- Assist with procurement strategies and subcontractor selection.
- Identify and maximise commercial opportunities and cost savings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide regular commercial reporting and forecasts to senior management.
- Support the development of junior members of the commercial team where required.
- Take an active role in improving commercial processes and supporting the continued growth of the business.
Job Requirements
- 5 plus years Quantity Surveying experience, ideally within a contracting environment and working on civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual management.
- Experience managing projects from procurement through to final account.
- Strong experience with subcontractor management, valuations, variations and cost control.
- Commercially astute with the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with confidence dealing directly with clients and subcontractors.
- Commercial or construction-related qualification desirable.
- A Quantity Surveyor currently operating at an intermediate level and looking to step into a Senior Quantity Surveyor position will also be considered.
- Willingness to travel across the UK, with approximately one overnight stay per week potentially required depending on project location.
- Full clean UK driving licence.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: £55,000 - £65,000, depending on experience.
