We're looking for a detail-oriented and technically minded Asset Information Technician to join our Asset Data Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in GIS, data management, mapping, and asset information systems to play a key role in maintaining the integrity of critical infrastructure data.
As an Asset Information Technician, you'll help ensure our asset records are accurate, up to date, and readily available to support operational and business decision-making. Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you'll maintain and quality-assure asset information within our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while contributing to the ongoing development of asset data services.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintaining, storing, validating and quality-checking asset information within GIS systems.
- Receiving, recording and digitising as-built drawings, plans, amendments and sketches.
- Updating and maintaining point, line and polygon asset datasets and associated attributes.
- Performing data cleansing, validation and error resolution activities.
- Supporting projects and business initiatives that improve asset data services.
- Receiving, verifying and loading mapping, addressing and CCTV data from suppliers.
- Responding to technical enquiries and providing accurate asset information to stakeholders.
- Supporting incident management activities when required.
- Participating in a GIS standby rota that provides 24/7 support for event and incident management.
- Producing reports and maintaining operational procedures and documentation.
- Assisting wider Asset Data Development and Visualisation activities.
- Conducting occasional site visits and surveys to collect and improve asset information.
What we are looking for:
- Essential GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to change.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
Desirable:
- Experience working with GIS systems or relational databases.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, G/Water or similar asset management systems.
- Experience presenting information through maps, dashboards or graphical outputs.
- Understanding of clean water infrastructure assets.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience or a willingness to learn.
- Qualification in Graphic Design or a related discipline.
- Skilled in interpreting maps and spatial information.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
