OVERALL PURPOSE: To manage technical and strategic development projects within the Engineering group under the direction of the Engineering Manager.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for managing internal technical projects associated with the strategic development of products within the Engineering group, as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partner organisations in the delivery of internal projects, planning and meetings, and preparing reports and recommendations based on discussions held.
  • Responsible for providing strategic technical direction and for driving the development of internal technical expertise to support product and R&D plans.
  • Responsible to the Engineering Manager for the status of all assigned technical projects to include schedule, quality, deliverables and external spend.
  • To support the development of proposals, as appropriate.
  • To support customer and supplier discussions and review meetings, as appropriate.
  • To coordinate team members assigned on specific programmes.
  • To include participation in certification and qualification test activities, liaising with others as required.
  • To prepare, review and approve design, qualification and certification documents, including approval and submission of certification applications to the Airworthiness Authorities as appropriate and required.
  • To approve drawings, and drawing modifications on appropriate programmes, using the CAD and data management systems.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of tools and processes across Engineering and other departments, as appropriate.
  • To assist in identifying methods for continuous improvement.
  • To participate in design reviews and other related technical meetings, as requested.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the working environment is safe for the activities to be carried out, and for ensuring that employees are working in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Company Health and Safety policies are being correctly observed.
  • To ensure all Company rules and regulations are met and to initiate appropriate corrective action and/or the Company disciplinary procedures when required.

In addition to the above, there may be a requirement to perform other duties as reasonably requested by Management. This is not an exhaustive list.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Use of 3D CAD systems.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics (mechanical/electrical).
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles including materials, mechanisms, mechanical/electrical systems, and reliability engineering.
  • Extensive experience of designing electromechanical mechanisms/machines and/or Actuators.
  • Extensive experience in drawing standards to BS888 and geometric tolerance.
  • Excellent understanding of bearing, lubricant and tight tolerance.
  • PC literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expert knowledge of PTC Creo.
  • Solid understanding of gears and actuation design.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to aerospace products.
  • Experience of design, testing, qualifying, and certifying aerospace products.
  • Experience on aircraft or defence products in a multi-disciplinary context.
  • Knowledge of DO-160 and other standards relevant to the development of aerospace critical components.
