The Opportunity An established global process manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join its engineering team on a temporary PAYE basis.
There is potential for the position to become permanent for the right person, subject to performance and business requirements.
This is a days-based role within a fully automated chemical processing plant equipped with modern technology.
Approximately 90% of the workload is planned maintenance, with around 10% reactive work, alongside ongoing engineering projects and continuous improvement activity.
It offers a varied technical environment with less emphasis on constant firefighting.
The Role You will maintain and repair plant and machinery to a high professional standard, diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective solutions.
The equipment includes pumps, motors, valves, pipework, compressors, utilities and steam plant, together with basic instrumentation checks and calibration.
The role will also involve maintaining planned maintenance and CMMS records, prioritising engineering workloads, coordinating activity with plant supervisors and helping to manage spare-parts availability.
You will contribute to continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and process-efficiency projects, while keeping the Engineering Manager informed of workload and operational issues.
Health and safety must remain the priority throughout every task.
About You You will be a time-served, qualified Mechanical Technician with hands-on maintenance experience gained in a chemical, adhesives or similar process manufacturing environment.
Applications are also welcomed from candidates with relevant FMCG, medium- or high-speed manufacturing, or wider process-industry experience.
You should be confident repairing and servicing plant mechanical systems and machinery, with strong knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance.
Experience with blending or batch-processing equipment would be advantageous.
You will be proactive, safety-conscious and comfortable working both independently and as part of an engineering team.
Permanent Salary and Benefits Should the temporary assignment transfer to a permanent position, the basic salary will be £43,500 per annum.
The permanent package will also include overtime paid after 40 hours at 1.5x from Monday to Saturday and 2x on Sundays and bank holidays, with a minimum four-hour call-out payment.
Permanent employees receive 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, an annual company bonus, death-in-service cover at four times salary and permanent health insurance providing 75% of monthly salary, subject to scheme terms.
The pension starts with matched employee and employer contributions of 4%, with company matching available up to 8%.
