An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician (Mechanical & Electrical) to join a leading organisation within the UK rail sector at their Doncaster depot. This role offers the chance to work on the modern Class 80x fleet, supporting critical maintenance, overhaul and modification activities on one of the most advanced intercity train platforms in operation today.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carrying out scheduled overhaul and maintenance activities on Class 80x rolling stock
  • Delivering modification programmes, improving fleet efficiency and minimising downtime
  • Performing fault finding, diagnostics and repairs across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Supporting new train introduction and acceptance processes
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with maintenance plans and production targets
  • Recording all maintenance activity through the Maintenance Management System (MMS)
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across depot operations
  • Maintaining strict compliance with health & safety procedures and standards

You may also be required to travel and stay away from home for short periods as part of project or fleet support requirements.

What We're Looking ForEssential Experience & Competence
  • Experience working in a modern engineering or rolling stock environment
  • Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical systems
  • Proven experience in overhaul, maintenance and modifications of modern trains
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems (MMS)
  • Excellent safety awareness in a live operational environment
  • Competent in core depot activities including: Manual handling; COSHH; Working at height; Use of powered plant and tools
Qualifications
  • Completed engineering apprenticeship (mechanical or electrical)
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
Desirable Skills
  • Ability to read electrical, mechanical and pneumatic schematics
  • Experience using depot equipment such as: Bogie drops / presses; Cranes and lifting equipment; Air systems
  • Additional competencies such as: Train driving; Depot protection; First Aid / Fire Warden
  • Intermediate IT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Full UK driving licence

Shift Pattern & Working Hours

Working hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Rotating shift pattern: 4 days on, 5 days off followed by 5 days on, 4 days off. Example: Monday-Thursday, then Friday-Tuesday off. 32 hours one week / 40 hours the next + Overtime available. This pattern offers a strong work-life balance with regular extended periods off.
