On behalf of Rolls-Royce, who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs, we are looking for a Strategic Buyer for a 12 month contract based in Derby.

Purpose of the Strategic Buyer role:

  • Support the development and execution of sourcing and category strategies across Research, Test & Technology programmes, including innovative engineering projects.
  • Manage strategic supplier relationships, ensuring continuity of supply, strong commercial performance, and access to cutting-edge technology and innovation.
  • Act as a key procurement partner to engineering and research stakeholders, helping shape supply chain strategies that support future aerospace and defence programmes.

What you'll do as a Strategic Buyer:

  • Lead strategic sourcing activities and run procurement projects.
  • Manage a portfolio of strategic suppliers, including technology partners, research organisations, and universities.
  • Develop and implement supply chain and category strategies to support research, testing, and technology programmes.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across engineering, procurement, and research functions on a global scale.
  • Support contract management activities, including supplier negotiations, renewals, terms and conditions, and commercial risk management.
  • Facilitate supplier workshops focused on innovation, intellectual property, technology development, and future capability requirements.
  • Monitor and mitigate supply chain risks while supporting programme delivery through effective project and stakeholder management.

The skills you'll need as a Strategic Buyer:

  • Procurement, sourcing, or buyer experience within aerospace, defence, engineering, manufacturing, or a similar technical environment.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing supply chain or category strategies.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple business functions.
  • Commercially astute with a solid understanding of contracts, terms and conditions, and sourcing best practices.
  • Strong negotiation, project management, and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable operating across both transactional procurement activities and strategic sourcing programmes.
  • Knowledge or interest in engineering, research and development, testing, or advanced technology environments.
