We are looking for a Senior Building Surveyor to join SRVO as part of a growing and highly capable surveying team, delivering core building surveying, project and compliance services across the UK.

This role is suited to an MRICS-qualified Surveyor (or equivalent level of experience) who enjoys variety, takes pride in technical quality, and is confident managing client instructions across both residential and commercial assets.

This is a senior role for a Surveyor who wants autonomy, technically credible work and project exposure, without being stuck in a volume-driven consultancy model.

You will work across a varied portfolio including residential, commercial, industrial and education environments, giving you genuine breadth and technical challenge rather than repetitive site types.

You will work under the direction of the Building Surveying Directors, with the freedom to run your own workload, lead projects, and contribute to the development of junior Surveyors and APC candidates.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

This is a senior-level role requiring sound judgement, strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple instructions without compromising quality. You will be expected to work independently in a remote environment, travelling to sites as required, while also collaborating closely with Directors and colleagues across the business.

The work is varied and technically broad, covering defects, planned maintenance, project delivery, compliance and advisory services. You will also be expected to support business development activity and contribute to improving services as SRVO continues to grow.

You will be trusted to deliver quality work properly, with the backing of Directors who care about standards and long-term client relationships.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You will be successful in this role if:

  • You deliver consistently high-quality technical work across a range of surveying instructions.
  • Clients trust your advice and see you as a reliable point of contact.
  • Projects are well managed, commercially sound and professionally delivered.
  • You take ownership of your workload, pipeline and deadlines.
  • You contribute positively to team development, mentoring and training.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

Most weeks, you will be:

  • Providing advice on building defects across a wide range of property types and ages.
  • Preparing Planned Preventative Maintenance reports, lifecycle costs and maintenance budgets.
  • Acting as Project Manager / Contract Administrator on projects typically ranging from £50k to £3m+.
  • Reviewing pre-construction information and overseeing RAMS review processes.
  • Supporting Building Safety Act 2022 related work, including building height surveys and structural appraisals.
  • Undertaking reinstatement cost assessments and pre-acquisition surveys.
  • Preparing schedules of dilapidations, negotiating claims and advising landlords and tenants.
  • Monitoring development and project works on behalf of landlords, funders and other parties.
  • Acting as Principal Designer where appropriate, including PCI packs, CPP review and H&S file preparation.
  • Supporting mentoring, APC development, CPD and wider company initiatives.

You will work remotely, with travel to sites across the UK as required, with a primary focus across the Midlands and Eastern regions.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

This role suits someone who:

  • Is MRICS qualified with a minimum of 2+ years PQE (or has equivalent senior surveying experience).
  • Holds a RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree (minimum 2:2 or equivalent).
  • Has strong knowledge of construction technology, building pathology and relevant legislation, including fire-related legislation.
  • Is confident managing client instructions, delivering reports, and leading projects through to completion.
  • Is comfortable working autonomously, managing their own pipeline and meeting deadlines.
  • Can build trusted relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Has experience managing others, mentoring, or is ready to step into a management role.

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Senior building surveying experience across residential and/or commercial assets.
  • Proven contract administration and project delivery experience.
  • Strong report writing capability and professional communication skills.
  • Experience advising on compliance, risk and building safety-related matters.
  • Confidence leading project teams and working with external consultants.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach and strong time management.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary aligned to experience.
  • Car allowance.
  • Discretionary bonus.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Remote and flexible working.
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance and enhanced family leave.
  • Fully funded training and professional development.
  • Pension scheme and employee assistance programme.
  • Employee referral scheme.
  • Discounts across travel, retail, fitness and entertainment.
