The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join a leading precision engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Crewkerne.
Working within a fast-paced machine shop environment, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines to produce high-precision components to exacting quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced machining technology, supporting the manufacture of complex engineered products within a safety and quality-focused production environment.
This position would suit an experienced CNC Setter / Operator who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality components and is committed to continuous improvement, efficiency and operational excellence.
What you will be doing
As a CNC Setter / Operator, your responsibilities will include:
Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines
Loading and adjusting CNC programmes to meet production requirements
Performing machine set-ups, including tooling, fixtures and datum setting
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
Carrying out first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment
Monitoring machine performance and making offset adjustments where required
Recording production and quality data accurately
Supporting routine machine maintenance, housekeeping and continuous improvement activities
What we are looking for
You will be an experienced CNC Machinist with strong setting and operating capabilities who enjoys working in a precision manufacturing environment.
Essential
Experience setting and operating CNC machines within a manufacturing environment
Experience working with sliding head lathes, CNC grinders or similar precision machining equipment
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience producing components to tight tolerances
Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and commitment to quality
Desirable
Experience with sliding head machinery
Experience operating CNC grinding machines
Experience working within high-volume precision manufacturing environments
