Tardis Environmental UK Ltd is a well-established portable toilet and tanker hire business operating a large fleet of HGV and LGV vehicles across multiple locations throughout the UK. We provide temporary waste and water solutions ranging from 1,000ltr waste and water storage tanks up to 30,000ltr storage tanks. We are proud members of FORS and hold Gold accreditation.

We are seeking an experienced and strategically minded National Transport Manager to lead, optimise, and develop our transport operations across the UK. Overseeing a fleet of approximately 180 vehicles, you will ensure safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective distribution activities while delivering exceptional service to our customers and internal stakeholders. This role requires strong leadership, excellent regulatory knowledge, and the ability to drive operational improvements across multiple sites.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee transportation operations end-to-end, ensuring compliance with regulations and managing logistics to meet business objectives. You will ensure all transport operations run smoothly in line with driver hours regulations, with a strong focus on excellent customer service, making sure collections are completed efficiently and proactively liaising with customers if service may be affected. You will also ensure all staff follow company policies, Tardis standards, and current legislation, effectively managing and overseeing transport requirements across the department and wider business.

Key Duties:

  • Operational Management: Coordinate and supervise transport operations, including route scheduling, driver management, and timely delivery of goods.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to transportation laws, safety standards, and licensing requirements.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise transportation staff, including drivers and logistics personnel. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing training.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee vehicle maintenance and servicing, ensuring fleet compliance with safety regulations.
  • Customer Coordination: Maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers, addressing any transport-related issues promptly.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on operations, costs, and compliance for management review.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing a national or multi-site transport operation.
  • CPC in Road Transport Management (National).
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and O Licence compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, managing large teams across multiple locations.
  • Experience with route planning, telematics, and transport management systems.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and drive performance improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience managing a fleet of 150+ vehicles.
  • Experience within the waste and water sector.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and alternative-fuel fleet solutions.

While based primarily at our Telford head office, travel to other UK locations may occasionally be required. You may be asked to carry out additional duties as required, including covering staff shortages or holidays.
