Reporting directly to the Head of Delivery Operations , this is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, customer experience, financial delivery and people leadership.
About the Role
As Area Manager - Final Mile , you will provide strategic leadership across your area, ensuring the highest standards of service, quality and cost efficiency once parcels transition from our Depot network through to final delivery and return journeys to our Hubs.
This role is about far more than operational management.
You'll shape strategy, drive innovation, influence key stakeholders across the business, and create an environment where colleagues can perform at their very best.
Working within both employed and self-employed delivery models, you'll play a critical role in maintaining legal compliance, building strong union relationships, and delivering sustainable operational success.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the strategic direction and operational performance of the area, delivering business objectives and driving continuous improvement.
Own area performance across cost, service, quality, customer satisfaction, and compliance metrics.
Manage and develop Area Operations Managers, Senior Planners, Regional Managers, and Community Delivery Managers.
Ensure effective planning, resource coverage, and operational optimisation across the network.
Analyse performance data to identify trends, opportunities, and corrective actions.
Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and high performance.
Maintain strong relationships with support functions, finance, HR, operational development teams, and union representatives.
Manage area P&L responsibility, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs.
Skills & Experience
Proven senior operational leadership experience within a complex logistics, distribution, or delivery environment.
Experience managing large budgets and operational performance.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Experience working with unionised environments and mixed employed/self-employed workforce models.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
Full UK Driving Licence.
