This role is officially known as a Family Support Assistant.

SALARY: £25,185 to £25,538 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £14,634 to £14,840 + Benefits

LOCATION: Chesterfield, Derbyshire, East Midlands

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 21 hours 30 minutes per week

JOB OVERVIEW

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Childrens Support Worker to provide practical care and support to children and young people with disabilities, helping families manage routines and promoting independence, dignity and wellbeing. As a Childrens Support Worker, you will work alongside experienced colleagues and managers, providing support in family homes across Chesterfield and surrounding areas, including early morning and evening visits, split shifts and weekend work on a rota basis.

DUTIES

  • Personal Care and Support: Provide practical support with personal care, showering or bathing, moving and handling and hoisting in line with care plans.
  • Family Home Support: Support children, young people and families within their own homes, helping with routines and agreed action plans.
  • Independence and Wellbeing: Help improve and maintain independence, promote health and wellbeing and enhance quality of life for families in need.
  • Care Plan Delivery: Read and follow care plans, routines and set action steps for children and young people with complex needs.
  • Safeguarding and Safety: Follow safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant processes while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Communication and Liaison: Liaise professionally with managers, colleagues, families, carers and other agencies to support agreed outcomes.
  • Monitoring and Records: Record work undertaken, monitor changes in family circumstances and alert managers to any changes or concerns.
  • Community and Family Activities: Support parents and carers with engagement in universal activities, parent and child groups and local community networks.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • ESSENTIAL
    • Experience of working with children, young people and families with complex or challenging needs.
    • Experience of personal care and moving and handling.
    • Understanding of and empathy with the needs of vulnerable families.
    • Ability to read and follow care plans.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Understanding of dignity, respect, professional boundaries and safeguarding procedures.
    • Ability to follow routines, carry out action plans and record changes in family circumstances.
    • Able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, as part of a team and alone.
    • Ability to travel around Chesterfield and the surrounding area, with a driving licence and access to a car.
    • Able to speak fluent English to communicate fully with clients and the public.
    • Level 2 Health and Social Care or equivalent and The Care Certificate, or willingness to work towards these once in post.
    • The right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
  • DESIRABLE
    • Experience of caring for other people in a work-based, voluntary or personal capacity.
    • Experience of using communication aids such as PECS.
    • GCSE English and Maths.
    • NVQ2/QCF Level 2 Health and Social Care.
