Key Responsibilities:

  • Fix and maintain equipment, carrying out reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks to support operational requirements.
  • Carry out ad hoc operational tasks when required.
  • Keep colleagues, the Maintenance Manager, and Shift Managers fully informed through relevant reporting systems.
  • Follow a designated task schedule and manage or organise your own workload when required.
  • Complete all tasks on time, in full, and to an acceptable standard.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Operate safely at all times using Dynamic Risk Assessment principles.
  • Carry out repairs to all types of plant and equipment in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Assist in developing planned preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Complete PPM schedules and planned work orders as required.
  • Operate maintenance Forklift Truck and Elevated Working Platform when needed.
  • Support visiting specialist engineers.
  • Report breakdown root cause, equipment faults, and concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Use the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) effectively.
  • Plan and prioritise workload to support production and ensure efficient use of time.
  • Raise and complete work requests using CMMS.
  • Manufacture simple spare parts (brackets, gaskets, etc.) using lathes, milling machines, welding equipment, and similar machinery.
  • Identify spares requirements and control/log usage.

The Person:

  • Time-served engineering apprentice with experience in FMCG, food and beverage, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.
  • Formal engineering qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 or HNC are desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrable experience with electrical control systems, PLCs, automation, and fault finding in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance background with excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills across a range of manufacturing and process equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with understanding of OEE, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and PPM.
  • Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and use initiative to resolve issues effectively.
  • Committed to challenging existing practices and driving improvements in reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Willingness to support activities across all areas of the site as required.
  • Maintains high standards of product safety, food safety, and personal safety, ensuring compliance with HSE, Environmental Health, HMRC, and all legislative requirements.
