The Concession Writer plays a critical role in maintaining the production flow of the Wing Manufacture program at Filton. This role is responsible for authoring, managing, and securing approvals for technical concessions arising from manufacturing non-conformances.

Operating under the direction of the Head of Business, you will directly support the shop floor operations team to minimize disruptions. Additionally, you will pivot from reactive non-conformance management to proactive operational excellence by supporting Quality Improvement Projects designed to optimize overall manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Concession & Non-Conformance Management: Investigate and Author: Inspect manufacturing deviations on the A400M wing structure and draft clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical concessions. Engineering Liaison: Interface directly with Design and Quality Engineering teams to ensure concessions are reviewed, validated, and approved in a timely manner. System Integration: Log, track, and update non-conformance data using internal aerospace quality management systems (e.g., SAP) to ensure complete traceability. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all authored concessions comply strictly with aviation regulatory standards, structural integrity requirements, and company quality procedures.
  • Operational Support: Shop Floor Integration: Work hand-in-hand with the A400M manufacturing operations team to resolve technical blockers swiftly and maintain assembly line tact time. Strategic Alignment: Execute tasks and prioritize concession backlogs as directed by the Head of Business to align with monthly delivery targets and operational KPIs. Risk Mitigation: Highlight potential production bottlenecks caused by recurring technical issues to operations leadership.
  • Quality Improvement & Operational Performance (New Focus): Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs): Actively participate in and support cross-functional projects aimed at root-cause analysis and the permanent eradication of recurring defects. Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance to implement Practical Problem Solving (PPS) methodologies, reducing the Cost of Non-Quality (CoNQ) and boosting overall operational performance.

Key Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience in aerospace manufacturing, specifically within wing structures, metallic/composite assembly, or aircraft quality environments.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, structural repair manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Systems Literacy: Proficiency in aerospace drawing interrogation & use of SAP.
  • Communication: Excellent written skills for drafting technical arguments, with the interpersonal skills needed to collaborate effectively between shop-floor operators and other support functions.
