The Opportunity
Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Senior or Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor who is looking to work on significant, high-value projects within the infrastructure, utilities, energy transmission and civil engineering sectors. You will play an important role in ensuring projects are delivered commercially successfully, working closely with project managers, engineers, planners, contractors and other key stakeholders. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of commercial activities while working as part of a collaborative and experienced project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and monitoring project costs from procurement through to completion and final account.
- Preparing and maintaining cost forecasts, budgets and commercial reports.
- Supporting the management and administration of NEC contracts.
- Reviewing and assessing applications for payment, variations, compensation events and change.
- Identifying, assessing and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Working closely with project teams to monitor progress against programme, budget and forecast.
- Providing accurate and timely commercial information to senior management and project stakeholders.
- Supporting procurement activities, subcontract management and commercial negotiations.
- Working collaboratively with Tier 1 contractors, subcontractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly commercial reporting and project performance updates.
- Supporting the resolution of commercial issues and ensuring contractual obligations are effectively managed.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and project delivery.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who has a strong commercial understanding and ideally has worked within a major infrastructure or civil engineering environment. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within infrastructure, utilities, energy transmission or major civil engineering projects.
- A good working knowledge of NEC contracts, with experience applying commercial and contractual principles in a live project environment.
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, change management and commercial reporting.
- Experience working with or alongside Tier 1 contractors.
- An understanding of programme controls and how programme performance can impact project cost and commercial outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of risk and opportunity management.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
- A degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- MRICS qualified or working towards chartership would be desirable.
