As a HSE Manager at Story Contracting, you will be responsible for delivering our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) strategy across the Construction Division. Working in partnership with our project teams, you will provide expert advice, guidance and support to ensure projects are delivered safely, responsibly and to the highest standards.
As the key HSE contact for the Construction Senior Management Team, you will be a visible and proactive leader who is passionate about building strong relationships across all levels of the business. You will have the confidence and credibility to influence behaviours, support decision-making and provide constructive challenge where required, helping our teams achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
This role will report directly to the Construction Managing Director. You will play a pivotal role in protecting and enhancing our health, safety and environmental performance, driving continual improvement and helping our teams identify opportunities, manage risk effectively, and deliver positive outcomes for our people, our clients and the communities in which we work.
You will be an experienced HSE professional with strong auditing and incident investigation capabilities, a keen eye for detail, and a practical, collaborative approach. Most importantly, you will be a people person who enjoys engaging with site teams, building trust and influencing behaviours to achieve the right outcomes.
We are looking for someone who thrives on building relationships and being present on site. You will be comfortable having constructive conversations, recognising good performance and challenging behaviours where required. Through coaching, support and accountability, you will work with our teams to protect and enhance our health, safety and environmental standards, ensuring we continue to deliver work safely, sustainably and in a way that strengthens Story Contracting's reputation as a trusted contractor.
You will be self-driven, with the ability to manage your time effectively, and prepared to travel across our sites predominantly located throughout Cumbria, to support our operational teams.
The Ideal Candidate
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
- Graduate Member of IOSH, with ambition to work towards CMIOSH
- Experience leading Health, Safety and Environmental performance within a construction and/or civil engineering environment
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence behaviours and drive positive cultural change across operational teams
- Experience of conducting site audits, incident investigations and supporting continual improvement initiatives
