The Gas Service Technical Lead provides technical leadership and support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of gas farm and onsite gas storage facilities. The role ensures the integrity, availability, and compliance of gas storage, handling, distribution, and associated control systems while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Technical Authority & Subject Matter Expertise
- Act as primary technical point of escalation and the technical authority for gas farm systems, equipment, and processes.
- Provide expert guidance on gas storage, transfer, distribution, pressure management, and associated utilities.
- Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis, and problem resolution for operational issues.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to gas farm operations and maintenance teams.
- Troubleshoot process, equipment, and control system issues to minimise operational disruption.
- Support the development of technical standards and best practices.
- Represent the gas farm during audits, inspections, and external technical reviews.
Process Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Champion process safety, operational discipline, and adherence to relevant legislation, standards, and company procedures.
- Conduct technical auditing, regulatory compliance oversight.
- Ensure gas farm operations comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Support risk assessments, management of change (MOC), and safety reviews.
- Promote safe working practices and challenge unsafe conditions or behaviours.
Asset Reliability & Maintenance
- Develop and maintain strategies to maximise equipment reliability and availability.
- Provide technical oversight for maintenance activities, inspection programmes, and equipment performance.
- Identify reliability risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Support lifecycle management of critical assets, including vessels, pipework, valves, compressors, pumps, instrumentation, and control systems.
Operations Support
- Assist with operational planning, shutdowns, start-ups, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Ensure operating procedures and technical documentation remain accurate and effective.
Engineering Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Support changes, modifications, and improvement projects from concept through implementation.
- Lead or support technical improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, capacity, and sustainability.
- Support commissioning, testing, and handover of new or modified equipment.
- Identify opportunities for optimisation and cost reduction.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Act as a technical mentor to operational personnel.
- Share knowledge and promote technical excellence across the organisation.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, HSE, and project teams.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
- IOSH or NEBOSH
- Gas Safe Certification/Qualification
- MediGas Certification/qualification, desirable
- COMPEX awareness award/certification
- ATEX awareness award/certification
- Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) awareness
- A level, O Level, GCSE; associate degree or undergraduate degree in business or science related field is preferred
- Forklift Certification preferred but not essential
- Spill containment, ADR, IATA, DOT, IMDG training preferred but not essential
- GMP/GLP training preferred but not essential
- Valid Driver's License

- Previous experience mentoring associates is required.
