Unitech Engineering Ltd, based in Burntwood, Staffordshire, is seeking an experienced and motivated Area Sales Manager to join our growing team. We design and manufacture bespoke and standard high-quality stainless steel and aluminium equipment for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other hygiene-critical industries throughout the UK and internationally.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially driven individual with a strong technical understanding and a passion for building long-term customer relationships within an engineering and manufacturing environment.
The Role
Reporting directly to one of the Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing designated UK sales territory. You will play a key role in identifying new business opportunities, maintaining and strengthening existing customer relationships, and delivering agreed sales targets. This role combines technical sales, account management, and project coordination within a fast-paced engineering environment. The position will involve regular travel throughout the UK, including customer site visits, exhibitions, and occasional overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prioritise sales activities across your designated territory.
- Develop and manage customer accounts in line with agreed sales and market development strategies.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing customers.
- Prepare and follow up quotations and sales enquiries.
- Maintain accurate customer records and sales activity within CRM systems.
- Monitor market trends, customer requirements, and competitor activity.
- Support local marketing activities including exhibitions.
- Work closely with internal engineering, production, and sales support teams to ensure a high level of customer service and project delivery.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits, and internal company meetings.
- Carry out site measurements and assist with project discussions where required.
- Contribute positively towards achieving company sales targets and growth objectives.
Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for a driven and professional individual who can combine technical understanding with strong commercial awareness.
Essential:
- Previous experience in a field sales or area sales role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical aptitude and interest in engineered solutions and project-based sales.
- Experience within a similar industry sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Flexibility to travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays where required.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Site measurement experience.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and reporting tools.
Desirable:
- Experience within the food processing, pharmaceutical, hygiene, or stainless-steel equipment sectors.
- Experience managing technical quotations and bespoke engineered projects.
