We are looking for an experienced Import & Export Coordinator to join our team in Dunnockshaw, Burnley BB11 5PW. This is a key role within the business, with responsibility for coordinating the day-to-day export of textiles and fabrics to customers both within the UK and internationally. The role is primarily export focused and involves coordinating shipments by international courier, particularly DHL, as well as arranging break bulk and freight shipments.

You will take ownership of the export process from the point of order through to delivery, ensuring that shipments are correctly documented, customs requirements are met and customers receive their goods on time. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who already has good practical export experience and is confident working independently. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of UK export procedures, customs documentation and Incoterms, together with experience of working with courier and freight companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the complete export process for textiles and fabrics, from order through to delivery.
  • Arrange international shipments using DHL and other courier services.
  • Coordinate break bulk shipments, arranging collections and ensuring all required documentation is completed.
  • Prepare and check commercial invoices, packing lists, shipping documentation and ensure shipments meet UK customs requirements.
  • Ensure accurate commodity codes, EORI numbers, quantities, values, weights and country-of-origin information are provided.
  • Ensure the correct Incoterms are applied and understood by all parties.
  • Liaise directly with international customers regarding shipping requirements and delivery arrangements.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, couriers, customers and suppliers to ensure shipments progress smoothly.
  • Monitor shipments and proactively deal with any delays, customs issues or delivery problems.
  • Deal with freight claims, damaged goods and delivery discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate records of export shipments and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate UK deliveries, arranging suitable transport and ensuring goods reach customers on time.
  • Provide excellent customer service and keep customers informed of delivery arrangements and any issues.
  • Work closely with the sales, warehouse and finance teams to ensure orders are dispatched efficiently.
  • Monitor freight costs and look for opportunities to improve shipping efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Keep up to date with changes to customs and international trade requirements.

About You

The successful candidate will have proven experience in an export, international trade or logistics role, ideally within a manufacturing, textile or similar environment. You will have:

  • Practical experience managing UK exports.
  • A good understanding of customs procedures and export documentation.
  • Good knowledge of Incoterms 2020, particularly FCA, DAP, DDP and EXW.
  • Experience using DHL or similar international courier services and their portals.
  • Experience arranging break bulk and freight shipments.
  • Good understanding of commodity codes, country of origin and EORI requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail particularly when dealing with quantities, values, weights and customs information.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Confidence dealing directly with customers, freight companies and customs agents.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • A proactive approach to resolving problems with a can do attitude.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities.
  • A recognised qualification in International Trade, Import/Export, Customs or Logistics would be advantageous but is not essential. Relevant practical experience will be equally valued.

We're looking for someone who doesn't simply process shipping paperwork, but understands why the paperwork is required and what needs to happen to get the goods successfully from our warehouse to the customer. If you have solid export experience, understand customs and freight, and enjoy taking ownership of getting shipments right first time, we'd like to hear from you.

What we offer

  • Salary negotiable around £30k per annum, depending on experience.
  • Annual performance related bonus.
  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • 5% Employer pension contributions.
  • 34-hour working week, Monday to Thursday: 8:30am 4:30pm, Friday: 8:30am 1:30pm.
  • A varied role with responsibility for international export operations.
  • The opportunity to develop and improve the company's international shipping processes.
  • A friendly and supportive working environment.

If you have experience in export coordination, logistics or international shipping and are looking for a role where you can take ownership of the export process, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV along with a brief covering letter outlining your relevant experience.
