A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Manager - Project Delivery to join a major defence organisation, supporting a high-profile programme and contributing to the delivery of complex capabilities for UK customers. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a challenging, international engineering environment where you will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

This role will sit within a growing Project Management function and will involve leading projects from a business perspective, managing risk, schedules and performance while working closely with technical, commercial and programme stakeholders. The successful candidate will also contribute to bidding and estimating activities and help drive continuous improvement across the project management community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage projects through delivery within a complex, matrix organisation.
  • Manage project risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project performance, including Earned Value Management (EVM), schedule adherence and schedule risk.
  • Lead project teams and drive delivery against agreed objectives, milestones and customer requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with technical, programme, commercial and functional stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple levels.
  • Apply sound business judgement when addressing complex problems and delivery challenges.
  • Support bidding and estimating activities where required.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across project delivery.
  • Share project management methodologies and best practice across the wider Project Management community.
  • Respond effectively to changing requirements and operate confidently within an ambiguous environment.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Project or Programme Management experience, ideally gained within a complex matrix organisation.
  • Experience working within engineering, defence, aerospace or another technically complex environment.
  • Strong risk management experience and a structured approach to resolving project issues.
  • Experience leading projects from a business perspective and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with EVM, schedule adherence and schedule risk assessments.
  • Bidding and estimating experience.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience leading and motivating project teams through challenging delivery environments.
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Proven Project or Programme Management experience.
  • Strong project risk management skills and the ability to manage complex delivery challenges.
  • Experience managing project schedules and understanding schedule risk.
  • The ability to influence and negotiate effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a changing and ambiguous environment.
  • A track record of leading project teams and driving successful project delivery.
  • Strong business judgement and problem-solving ability.
