Are you an experienced Characterization, Silicon Validation or High-Speed Electronics Engineer looking for a role where you can work on some of the most advanced semiconductor technologies in the industry? We are working with a leading global semiconductor technology company that is expanding its engineering team in Bristol and is looking for a Senior Characterization Engineer to take a leading role in the development and validation of next-generation high-speed optical and electrical semiconductor products. This is a highly hands-on role combining semiconductor characterization, signal integrity, high-frequency measurement, test automation and data analysis. You will lead the planning and execution of bench and PVT characterization activities for new semiconductor products, working closely with international engineering teams across the UK, North America and Mexico. You'll be responsible for taking products from initial test setup through to characterization, analysis and technical reporting while also driving improvements in test automation and engineering efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead characterization activities for new product introductions (NPI), including test planning, equipment selection, hardware preparation and fixture development.
  • Develop and bring up robust, repeatable automated test environments.
  • Develop Python-based test automation and automated measurement methods.
  • Perform hands-on characterization using advanced electronic test equipment.
  • Analyse large and complex datasets to identify performance trends, issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex hardware and signal integrity issues.
  • Produce detailed technical reports and present findings to cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support improvements to characterization processes, automation and test methodologies.
  • Contribute to signal integrity improvements and advanced test solutions.
  • Explore and implement AI-based tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise across the wider engineering team.
  • Stay current with emerging high-speed technologies, test equipment, standards and advanced semiconductor packaging.

What We're Looking For:

We're looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in semiconductor characterization, silicon validation or high-speed electronics.

Essential Experience:

  • BEng/MEng in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 5-10 years' relevant industry experience.
  • Strong experience with high-speed analogue semiconductor products and signal integrity testing.
  • Hands-on experience developing Python-based test automation or similar.
  • Strong understanding of high-speed/high-frequency PCB design principles.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment with advanced electronic test equipment.
  • Strong experience analysing large and complex engineering datasets.
  • Excellent debugging, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical projects.
