DelaControl is a specialist industrial automation and controls engineering company, designing and building bespoke control systems and special purpose machinery for a wide range of industrial clients. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Production / Workshop Manager to take ownership of our workshop floor and drive it forward.
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of our workshop, overseeing the production of bespoke control panels and special purpose machinery from job start through to dispatch. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to shape how a growing workshop operates - improving processes, raising standards, and building a strong, capable team. You'll lead a workshop team of 8, reporting to the senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the production of bespoke control systems and special purpose machinery, from job release through to completion
- Plan and manage workshop scheduling to ensure projects are resourced correctly and delivery dates are consistently met
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of 8 workshop staff - including training, skills development, and performance management
- Drive continuous improvement across workshop layout, processes, and ways of working
- Own and champion health & safety standards on the workshop floor, ensuring compliance and a strong safety culture
- Act as the key link between the workshop and the office team, ensuring smooth communication on job status, technical queries, and priorities
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, escalating issues early where delivery dates are at risk
- Maintain quality standards throughout the build process
- Report on workshop performance, capacity, and delivery to the senior leadership team
- Proven experience managing or supervising a production/workshop team, ideally within control panel building, special purpose machinery, or a related engineering/manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of production scheduling and delivery management
- A track record of driving process and efficiency improvements on a shop floor
- Confident leading, motivating, and developing a team
- Solid working knowledge of workshop health & safety practices and requirements
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable liaising between workshop and office/engineering teams
- Organised, hands-on, and comfortable balancing daily production pressures with longer-term improvement projects
- Experience with control panels, electrical/mechanical assembly, or bespoke machinery builds is highly desirable
- Sociable work environment
- Bonus scheme for all site visits
- South Bristol based office
- Flexible hours (Mon-Fri) to allow a work-life balance
- 22 days holiday, plus bank holidays (an extra day for every two years at the company)
- BHSF Health Plan, including a 24/7 GP phoneline
- Training opportunities for staff to grow and develop with the business
- Pension
- Free parking on site
