Morson Edge are working on behalf of a major client in the Energy Sector who have a requirement for a Contract Engineering Lead to join their established Project team at Aztec West, Bristol. All work is associated with the Nuclear New Build construction Project underway in Somerset. The position is offered on a contract basis, inside IR35.
Overview
With the Project having reached the stage where design work is now largely complete, this role will specifically focus upon the design surveillance of a building that will house the Auxiliary Boiler system - which will eventually provide steam to the main turbines of the two power station reactors. The role holder will essentially be responsible for reviewing/checking subcontractor completed works, coordinating design related activities and providing support as the Project transitions into the commissioning phase. You will be supported by a multi-disciplinary Team within the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an all-round engineering lead, with a strong focus on coordination rather than detailed technical delivery.
- Provide technical management of Contract(s), including being the primary point of contact for the civil programme Project Managers and Mechanical, Electrical and Heating and Ventilation (MEH) programme Project Managers.
- Review and check completed design work to ensure it is suitable for project requirements.
- Coordinate the design team and help keep project activities aligned.
- Ensure effective configuration control processes are in place and are implemented.
- Lead the resolution of transverse (multi-programme) engineering issues or risks.
- Ensure consistency of Contract Partner(s) deliverables with the contract technical specifications.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and external suppliers.
- Support the project as it moves from design completion into the commissioning phase.
Criteria
- Typically, degree qualified or equivalent in civil/structural/architect/process/mechanical Engineering discipline (Mechanical engineering background would be useful).
- Experience in design management and coordination on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
- An all-round engineer who can coordinate effectively across teams and suppliers.
- UK project experience required.
- Solid technical knowledge of building design and construction particularly key UK legislation (eg CDM 2015).
- Commissioning experience would be beneficial.
- Experience in nuclear industry appreciated - though not essential. (Awareness of the nuclear safety related constraints).
- Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented, leadership.
- Acknowledged organisational skills including the ability to delegate.
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills and proficiency in engineering software packages.
- Desirable: Engineering experience with boilers, steam generation facilities or thermal process.
