Are you an experienced Clerk of Works looking for a role that offers genuine flexibility, autonomy and an excellent work life balance? We're working with a highly respected, multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy that is continuing to invest heavily in the growth of its successful Clerk of Works team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established business with a strong reputation, an impressive project portfolio and a culture built around trust, flexibility and professional development.

The Role

Working predominantly across residential new build developments, alongside a variety of refurbishment projects, you will play a key role in ensuring construction works are delivered to the required quality, specification and contractual standards. You'll be trusted to manage your own diary, organise your site inspections and plan your workload in the way that suits you best. There is no culture of micromanagement; provided projects are being monitored effectively and clients receive an excellent service, you'll have complete autonomy over how you work. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home when not on site. You'll travel directly to projects across the region, with mileage paid from your home address.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out regular site inspections throughout the construction process.
  • Monitoring the quality and progress of both new build and refurbishment works.
  • Identifying defects, poor workmanship and potential construction issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual drawings, specifications, Building Regulations and relevant legislation.
  • Verifying that warranty provider standards are being achieved.
  • Producing detailed written inspection reports supported by photographs and videos.
  • Undertaking snagging inspections and end of defects period inspections.
  • Working closely with contractors, consultants and clients to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior Clerks of Works, helping with their ongoing technical and professional development.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Clerk of Works in any capacity.
  • Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) at any level, or an application currently in progress.
  • A strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and quality assurance.
  • Experience of residential new build projects and/or refurbishment works.
  • Good working knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
  • Strong written communication and report writing skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and modern technology, including tablets. Full training will be provided on any specialist software used within the business.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary up to £55k, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
  • Fully remote working with site based inspections.
  • Mileage paid from your home address.
  • 35 hour working week.
  • Excellent work life balance.
  • Complete flexibility and autonomy over how you manage your workload.
  • No micromanagement; you're trusted to do your job.
  • Genuine career progression opportunities for those who want them.
  • The opportunity to join an established, growing and highly regarded Clerk of Works team.
  • A supportive and collaborative culture where your expertise is recognised and valued.
