Sector: Commercial Electrical Projects

Location: Office-based with client and site travel

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Typical Project Value: £200,000 to £300,000

Project Load: Usually one major project at a time

Valoris Group Limited is recruiting on behalf of an established national electrical services provider delivering commercial electrical, lighting, maintenance, compliance and energy efficiency projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for either an experienced Electrical Estimator or a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong commercial project experience who is looking to move into a more office-based role while remaining closely involved with clients, sites and project delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates for commercial electrical projects, typically valued between £200,000 and £300,000. You will usually focus on one major project at a time, giving you the time to properly review the scope, assess drawings and specifications, speak with clients, understand site requirements and produce clear, accurate and commercially sound tenders.

The Role

As Estimator, you will work closely with the commercial, project management and operations teams to price commercial electrical projects from initial enquiry through to submission and handover. This is not a purely desk-based role. There will be travel to client sites and meetings where required, allowing you to assess works, understand project requirements first-hand and build strong working relationships with clients.

The role would suit someone who understands electrical works from a practical background and now wants to use that experience in a commercial estimating position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for commercial electrical projects, typically valued between £200,000 and £300,000
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules of work, tender documents and client requirements
  • Attend client sites and meetings where required to assess project scope and understand requirements
  • Break down project costs including labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and associated delivery costs
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate and competitive pricing
  • Produce professional quotations, tender submissions and supporting commercial documentation
  • Identify risks, exclusions, assumptions and key commercial points before submission
  • Work with project managers and operations teams to ensure estimates are realistic, deliverable and profitable
  • Support project handovers once work is secured, ensuring the delivery team understands the scope, pricing and client expectations
  • Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing data, supplier information and tender documentation
  • Identify value engineering opportunities where suitable
  • Ensure all estimates are completed accurately, professionally and within agreed timescales

Suitable Backgrounds

This role could suit candidates from any of the following backgrounds:

  • Electrical Estimator
  • Commercial Electrical Estimator
  • Senior Electrical Engineer
  • Electrical Project Engineer
  • Electrical Supervisor
  • Electrical Contracts Engineer
  • Electrical Project Manager with estimating exposure
  • Experienced Electrician or Senior Engineer looking to move into an office and client-facing role

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical projects
  • Experience working on or pricing commercial electrical works
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and scopes of work
  • Good understanding of labour, materials, plant, subcontractor costs and project delivery requirements
  • Practical electrical knowledge gained from site, engineering, supervisory or estimating experience
  • Confident speaking with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Comfortable travelling to client sites and meetings when required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate cost breakdowns
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to balance competitiveness and profitability
  • Organised, methodical and able to manage one major project at a time
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and general estimating or project systems

Desirable Experience

  • Experience estimating commercial electrical works
  • Background in lighting, electrical installation, testing, compliance, maintenance or energy efficiency projects
  • Previous experience with projects valued around £200,000 to £300,000
  • Knowledge of commercial project delivery, site surveys and client meetings
  • Electrical qualifications would be beneficial, especially for candidates moving from a senior engineering background

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be technically strong, commercially aware and confident working with both clients and internal teams. You may already be working as an Estimator, or you may be a Senior Electrical Engineer, Supervisor or Project Engineer who has spent years delivering commercial electrical projects and now wants to move into a more office-based commercial role. You will still enjoy being involved with clients and sites, but may want to step away from being fully tools-based or permanently field-based. This position offers the chance to use your technical knowledge in a more strategic, commercial and client-facing role.

Whats on Offer

  • Permanent, full-time opportunity
  • Office-based role with client and site travel when required
  • Opportunity for a Senior Engineer to move into estimating
  • Commercial projects typically valued between £200,000 and £300,000
  • Focused workload, usually one major project at a time
  • Long-term opportunity with an established national electrical services provider
  • Support from internal commercial, operations and project delivery teams
  • A strong route into a more office-based commercial position while still staying close to projects and clients
