We're working with a growing consulting business looking for a hands-on Finance & Operations Manager to take ownership of its day-to-day financial and operational processes.
This is a broad, varied role sitting right at the heart of the business.
You'll make sure suppliers and employees are paid correctly and on time, invoices are raised and followed up, payroll and expenses are administered properly, and new starters have everything they need to hit the ground running.
You'll have plenty of autonomy, working closely with the leadership team and an external accountancy firm.
You don't need to be finance qualified what matters is that you're confident with finance processes, highly organised and someone who takes ownership and gets things done.
What you'll be doing
It's a wonderfully varied role, including:
Finance
Managing supplier invoices, approvals and payments
Raising customer invoices and keeping an eye on outstanding payments
Monitoring bank accounts and reconciling incoming payments
Managing employee expenses and ensuring everything is accurately recorded
Coordinating monthly reconciliations with the external accountants
Managing the monthly payroll administration, including starters, leavers and changes
Administering pensions and other employee payment requirements
Monitoring HMRC liabilities and ensuring payments are made on time
Maintaining accurate, well-organised financial records
Operations
Managing the day-to-day procurement of hardware, software and other business requirements
Looking after software subscriptions, licences, renewals and suppliers
Making sure new employees have everything they need from day one from payroll and right-to-work checks through to laptops, email and system access
Keeping track of suppliers, subscriptions and associated costs
Working with colleagues and external providers to resolve queries and keep things moving
You'll be the person who notices when something needs doing, follows it through and makes sure it doesn't get lost in the cracks.
About you
We're looking for someone who is organised, dependable and enjoys having ownership of their work.
You'll probably have experience in a finance operations, accounts, business operations, office management or similar role, with hands-on experience of areas such as:
Accounts payable and receivable
Invoices, payments and expenses
Payroll administration
Online banking and business payments
Xero (and ideally Dext)
Managing multiple deadlines and recurring processes
You'll be confident dealing with senior colleagues, happy to chase when an approval is needed and have the judgement to handle confidential financial and employee information appropriately.
Most importantly, you're someone who takes responsibility.
You don't wait to be told that something needs doing you spot it, sort it and keep people informed.
Experience in a start-up, scale-up or other fast-moving business would be useful.
Whats on offer
The role is available from 3 days per week upwards, with the business open to 4 days or full-time for the right person.
You'll be based in Berkhamsted (or London if preferred), with hybrid working available, giving you a good balance of autonomy and time with the team.
A salary of up to £40,000 FTE is on offer, pro rata for hours worked.
Other benefits include 27 days holiday (pro rata), 7% pension and healthcare benefits.
