Our client is one of the UK's leading print & digital design agencies for Publishing, with a specialism within the Educational Publishing sector. Their purpose is to create stunning materials that help to educate and inspire readers across the world.

The main purpose of the job is to support the studio within their Publishing Services department on non-design tasks such as project admin, picture research and artwork/media commissioning within the production of the books and other materials. A fundamental part of this role is to ensure projects leaving the studio meet their exacting standards and deadlines.

The main responsibility of this position is to contribute to the production workflow and to be a valued member of your team under the direction of the Publishing Services Manager. This will include working, in a non-design capacity, on educational course material including printed books, interactive PDFs, web screens, apps and eBooks.

  • Communicating closely with colleagues during the production process to ensure projects run smoothly;
  • Assisting with commissioning suppliers, including checking briefs for clarity and accuracy, liaising with suppliers to maintain schedules and ensure briefs are met, as well as assessing the quality of work supplied;
  • Tracking costs and schedules to ensure products are brought out on time, on budget, and to their quality standards, using their in-house methods and studio management system;
  • Leveraging internet research skills to search, select, and acquire suitable assets (photos/videos etc) from web-based libraries, aligning with client briefs, in-house creative requirements, and staying updated on trends and diverse options for published materials;
  • Sourcing permissions and clearing rights for photos based on client requests, ensuring strict compliance with client requirements;
  • Carrying out instructions on marked proofs for editorial corrections and other non-design changes;
  • Checking your own work for accuracy;
  • Text formatting - importing text into an InDesign template/document, formatting text into the correct styles using style sheets, tables, feature boxes, GREP etc.;
  • Text formatting - laying out text and images in Word, formatting text and making corrections.

At times of pressurised deadlines, you will be expected to work outside your contracted hours if asked, paid at the overtime rate. The job will involve using mainly the Adobe suite of software as well as Microsoft Excel and Word to an advanced level. You will need to maintain their in-house quality control procedures, be aware of and responsible for producing work for delivery within the timescale laid down by clients and to be aware of progress in production within budget constraints - alerting your line manager if this is creeping over.

You will be expected to keep an accurate record of time spent on the projects you work on, both in a manual diary and using their studio management system. The work is fast-paced and requires someone who has a meticulous eye for detail when applied to working quickly, is highly organised and likes to take their own initiative.

Salary: £25,000.00 to £30,000.00 + benefits. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide; this enables people with a range of experiences to apply as well as provides room for progression within the role. This is a full-time position consisting of 37.5 hours, 5 days a week (7.5 hours a day). All new colleagues are required to attend their Stevington studio in person, Monday to Friday working the core hours of 9am to 4pm throughout their probationary period. This ensures a consistent and supportive onboarding experience, providing hands-on training, collaboration with colleagues, and a strong introduction to the creative culture at our client's company. Following a successful probation period, colleagues will be eligible for their full suite of benefits.
