Ready to lead from the front, keep standards high, and turn everyday customer conversations into trade relationships that last? If you're a people-first leader with a strong trade counter background, this is your chance to step into a role where your day-to-day impact is visible, measurable and genuinely valued. At Vuba Surfaces, we're building a faster, sharper trade experience - one counter, one account, and one delivery at a time.
As Trade Counter Manager, you'll be responsible for running an efficient, friendly and highly organised trade counter that supports builders, installers, merchants, and contractors. You'll lead a small team, ensure customers get the right product at the right time, and drive improvements that make it easier for trade customers to do business with us. This is not a back-office-only role. You'll be on the counter, shaping the customer experience, coordinating with internal teams, and making sure every customer leaves confident whether they're collecting orders, placing enquiries, or needing quick guidance on suitable surfaces.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead and develop the team - manage day-to-day performance, coach colleagues, and create a consistently positive trade counter culture.
- Deliver an exceptional trade experience - greet customers confidently, handle trade enquiries promptly, and build rapport quickly.
- Manage trade counter operations - order processing, stock checks, picking coordination and maintaining accurate records.
- Improve efficiency - spot bottlenecks, introduce better ways of working, and help streamline collection and order turnaround.
- Handle customer queries professionally - resolve issues, escalate appropriately, and follow through until the outcome is right.
- Support sales growth - identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities in a way that genuinely helps the customer's project.
- Work closely with internal teams - ensure smooth communication between the trade counter, sales, warehouse/logistics and customer service.
- Maintain standards - keep the counter area tidy, organised and ready for customers, with clear product knowledge at hand.
- Use data and process - track performance, report on key metrics and keep procedures compliant and consistent.
What we're looking for:
- Proven trade counter or front-line retail/wholesale leadership experience - you'll know what great looks like in day-to-day service.
- Excellent communication skills - you can speak clearly, listen properly, and keep customers informed.
- A can-do mindset - calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and able to keep things moving.
- Strong product and process awareness - whether you've worked in surfaces, building materials or a similar environment, you'll learn quickly and apply what you know.
- Leadership ability - you motivate people, set standards, and help your team perform at their best.
- Organised and detail-oriented - you manage tasks, paperwork and stock processes with care.
- Customer-first attitude - you understand trade customers value speed, accuracy and reliability.
Working as Trade Counter Manager at Birstall is about more than serving customers - it's about owning the experience. You'll be the person trade customers remember: the one who knows what they need, explains options clearly, and makes sure orders are handled properly. You'll also be joining a brand with momentum and high expectations. That combination means you'll have the opportunity to influence standards, improve processes, and help shape how trade customers experience Vuba every day.
At Vuba, we don't just offer jobs - we build careers. If you're ready to work hard, think differently, embrace opportunity and be part of something extraordinary, your future starts here.
