We're looking for a Head of SHEQ with proven experience across the social housing, energy efficiency, and low-carbon/renewables sectors to join our business in Bathgate.

Job Purpose

You will lead SHEQ across SES UK, aligning strategy, planning and resources with business objectives, reporting to the Managing Director and holding overall accountability for performance across all business units. You will act as the senior point of contact for regulators including HSE and SEPA, setting the SHEQ direction and driving a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk management. You will develop and maintain robust SHEQ systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001), ensuring full compliance with legislation and standards. In addition, you will lead the SHEQ function, deliver a structured change programme, embed best practice across operational teams, and ensure consistent training. Success will be measured through SHEQ performance, compliance, and cultural improvement.

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and lead the SHEQ strategy across the business
  • Deliver a transformational change programme, driving continuous improvement and proactive risk management
  • Champion behavioural safety and cultural improvement initiatives

Governance & Compliance

  • Act as the senior point of contact for all SHEQ matters
  • Ensure robust risk management, incident investigation and reporting processes
  • Lead on compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulators including HSE, SEPA, and the Environment Agency

Audit & Assurance

  • Oversee internal audits across sites and operations
  • Report SHEQ performance to senior leadership and Group
  • Drive actions through to completion and maintain all key accreditations (CHAS, Constructionline, etc.)

Leadership & Capability

  • Lead and develop the SHEQ team
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality training across the business
  • Deliver coaching, toolbox talks and embed best practice at all levels

Operational Support

  • Partner with operational teams to achieve full compliance across programmes and projects
  • Support delivery against technical standards including MCS, PAS2030, PAS2035, Gas Safe and NICEIC
  • Ensure robust planning documentation (CPPs, RAMS) is in place and effective

Essential Skills & Experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
  • IOSH (Graduate or above)
  • Proven experience in a senior SHEQ leadership role
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO standards and UK legislation (including CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act)
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-site environments

Desirable

  • Environmental or Quality qualifications (IEMA, IRCA, NEBOSH Environmental)
  • Experience supporting industry awards (RoSPA, British Safety Council)
