Star wars, Music events and Lego if those sound like your kind of thing, this could be a very different first job after university.
We are recruiting a Live-in Personal Care Assistant (PA) for our client, a first year University student who is wanting to immerse himself in the student lifestyle - This isn't just about providing care. It enables a young student to live independently, pursue his interests, socialise and explore what student life is really like.
Location: Bath Spa University
Start Date: Immediate start
Rota: Live-in 7 days on / 7 days off
Pay: £180 per day £1,260 per week worked , plus agreed overtime
Holiday: 5.6 weeks pro rata
Meet our client
Our client is venturing to University to study Food and Nutrition and is excited to see what the uni lifestyle holds for him. He has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and requires help with aspects of daily living.
Hes a big star wars fan, from the original films to the newer tv series - he loves it all! He loves Lego and is looking at joining a Lego society at University! Hes massively into music and is looking at attending events and gigs with his PAs in the future.
In his own words:
I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which means I mostly rely on a power wheelchair to go about my daily business.
My condition means that my muscles do not work as well as they should, and when muscle fibre breaks down it is replaced with fat cells instead of new muscle cells.
I chose Food with Nutrition because Im a real foodie, and I love learning about how our food is produced. Im also very interested in nutrition, as eating the correct diet is incredibly important to me personally, so what goes into our food has always been of interest.
I would one day love to write a cook book for people in situations like mine.
What would you actually be doing?
Your role is to provide the practical support that allows our client to get on with his life. One day you might be supporting him at home; another could involve a music event, meeting friends, or travelling.
You'll assist with:
Personal care and daily living
Socialising, activities and travel
Driving his adapted vehicle
Cooking and food preparation
Shopping, cleaning and household tasks
Therapy, stretches or hydrotherapy, with full training provided
Practical organisation to support his independence
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who is:
Friendly, positive, sociable and easy to get along with
Flexible and comfortable with spontaneous changes of plan
Proactive, organised and able to use their initiative
Physically fit enough for the practical elements of the role
Calm, patient, mature and responsible
Comfortable cooking, cleaning and shopping
Clean, tidy and respectful of the accommodation provided
Fluent in English with good communication skills
Willing to provide additional holiday or sickness cover where possible
Why consider becoming a PA?
The 7 days on / 7 days off rota gives you substantial time away from work while earning £1,260 for each full week worked , before agreed overtime.
You'll work one-to-one with another young person rather than stepping straight into a conventional office job, gaining valuable experience in communication, responsibility, problem-solving, organisation and adapting to changing situations .
Most importantly:
You don't need to have worked in care before. We'll teach you the care side. We're looking for the right person.
Interested?
When applying, tell us a little about yourself and your interests in your covering letter . We'd particularly like to hear about your interests in business, sport, travel, films, comedy or anything else that will help us understand whether you and our client might get along.
