We are currently seeking an experienced UNIX Engineer to join a high-profile programme supporting complex enterprise infrastructure within a secure environment. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale, business-critical UNIX platforms, contributing to infrastructure resilience, system modernisation and ongoing operational support.

The Role

As a UNIX Engineer, you will play a key role in the administration, support and enhancement of enterprise Oracle Solaris environments. You'll work alongside infrastructure specialists to deliver resilient, secure and high-performing UNIX platforms supporting mission-critical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, support and maintain Oracle Solaris environments across enterprise infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage Logical Domains (LDOMs) on Oracle T-Series hardware.
  • Deliver UNIX migration and upgrade projects with minimal service disruption.
  • Design, implement and support high-availability clustering solutions.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively resolve complex technical issues.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, application and project teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Ensure systems remain compliant with security standards and operational best practices.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation where required.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience administering Oracle Solaris environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with LDOM (Logical Domains) configuration and management.
  • Experience supporting Oracle T-Series servers (T5, T7 and T8).
  • Proven background delivering UNIX migration and upgrade projects.
  • Experience implementing and supporting resilient cluster technologies.
  • Solid understanding of UNIX networking, storage and security.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within enterprise environments.

Desirable Skills

  • Oracle Solaris certifications or equivalent UNIX qualifications.
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise or government environments.
  • Automation and scripting experience using Shell, Python or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and system optimisation.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of this programme, applicants must:

  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain, SC Security Clearance.
  • Be a sole UK British National (dual nationality cannot be considered).
  • Be comfortable working within highly secure environments handling sensitive information.

Location

This role requires on-site attendance in Barrow-in-Furness as part of the project delivery, so candidates should be able to commute or relocate as required.
