Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (Configuration Control)
Role Purpose
The Principal Engineer (Configuration Control) is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and governing configuration baselines across submarine engineering programmes. Working closely with Engineering, Project Management, Customers, and Suppliers, the role ensures products, systems, and documentation are delivered safely, compliantly, and under effective change control.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain Configuration Management Plans and controlled baselines throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Manage and govern configuration changes, ensuring robust processes and traceability are in place.
Monitor configuration status, identify risks or issues, and support corrective actions and recovery plans.
Ensure configuration control requirements are applied across projects and flowed down effectively to suppliers.
Provide configuration status reporting and support design reviews, audits, and lifecycle management reviews.
Promote best practice in configuration management and provide guidance to engineering and project teams.
Support project planning, estimating, and delivery activities related to configuration control.
Knowledge & Experience
Understanding of engineering lifecycles and configuration management principles.
Knowledge of asset hierarchies and product structures, including WBS, PBS, and BOM.
Experience managing baselines, design changes, and technical documentation within complex engineering projects.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and governance processes.
Skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to analyse, monitor, and report configuration status.
High attention to detail with a structured approach to documentation and control.
Strong awareness of Product Safety and SHE requirements.
Qualifications
Engineering Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
CM2 certification preferred.
