The Role
As the Yard Operations Manager, you will drive yard efficiency. This is a “lead from the front” role. You will ensure every piece of cargo—regardless of scale—is secured, lashed, and dispatched with absolute precision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee the end-to-end flow of a busy technical yard. Maintain high throughput without compromising safety.
- OOG Specialisation: Lead the expert loading and lashing of Out of Gauge (OOG) cargo. Use specialist equipment and custom casing solutions.
- Strategic Planning: Create daily loading schedules. Optimise yard space and meet tight transport deadlines.
- Financial Oversight: Take full P&L responsibility. Manage budgets, cost control, and resource allocation.
- Team Management: Mentor a multi-disciplinary team. Foster a culture of high performance and accountability.
- Health & Safety: Act as the site safety lead. Ensure strict adherence to Working at Height and heavy lifting protocols.
- Systems Optimisation: Use robust systems to track inventory and operational KPI.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Experience: Minimum 3 years as a Yard Operations Manager within technical logistics.
- Heavy Machinery: Current licences for Reach Stackers and heavy-duty Forklifts (up to 16t).
- Safety & Compliance: Valid Working at Height qualification. Proven track record in Health and Safety management.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of cargo securing, weight distribution, and bespoke timber casing.
- Risk Management: Ability to assess and mitigate operational risks to prevent disruption.
