All Souls Serve the City (ASSTC) is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), based at All Souls Church bringing together a breadth of ministries serving those who are vulnerable. Our vision is to see all in London flourish in body and soul. We do this by offering the message and ministry of Jesus, focusing on those who are isolated, overlooked and exploited, due to their stage of life or their circumstances. Our ministries reach out from the All Souls parish, to Westminster and beyond. Each ministry is rooted in our values of love, honour and service.

Demonstrating our love for one another and for the city, we seek to bring gospel hope and biblical truth to four distinct groups: those who find themselves homeless, women involved in the sex industry (including those who are trafficked and exploited), school children, and seniors.

The mission of ASSTC is to serve the isolated, overlooked and exploited in London, bringing the message and ministry of Jesus. Our aim in ASLAN, the All Souls Local Action Network, is to engage with people affected by homelessness by offering them individualised care, support and friendship.

The ASLAN Faith and Volunteer Network (FVN) Night Shelter – also referred to as the ASLAN Communal Setting or the ASLAN Shelter – is a collaborative project, partially funded by Westminster City Council (WCC) and coordinated by All Souls Serve the City (ASSTC). Referrals are managed by WCC’s commissioned outreach provider, the St Mungo’s Street Outreach Service (SOS) team. The shelter is designed to accommodate up to 20 guests each night and is open to individuals assessed as low risk/low needs. The shelter runs for between 6-9 months a year, usually starting in October and finishing between April-June. We partner with other churches, who offer volunteers and venues throughout the run. The Shelter is supported by a large team of volunteers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To manage the recruitment of relief coordinators and volunteers including training and onboarding, shift coordination and weekly team meetings.
  • To assist in setting the budget and monitoring financial performance together with the head of ASLAN.
  • To manage partnerships including with churches, St Mungo’s and Westminster Council.
  • To manage the logistics of the shelter including scheduling shift coordinators, venues, transportation, food and clothing provision.
  • To be present and visible at all venues on a regular basis to ensure continuity for guests.
  • To ensure the shelter is run safely, ensuring health and safety and safeguarding practices are embedded in the daily running of the shelter.
  • To ensure the shelter is run effectively at all times, working with partners and guests to create a consistently safe and peaceful environment.
  • To work with partner organisations and guests to ensure the best outcomes possible for guests.
  • To represent the shelter, ASLAN and ASSTC at meetings with referral and host partners, stakeholders or sector experts.
  • To implement systems to ensure the safe collection of data.
  • To relate to our homeless guests and clients with the utmost respect and tolerance, seeking to build their self-confidence and self-worth and improve their quality of life.
  • To be the interface for Shelter guests to the ASLAN Befriending program utilizing team members to provide individual support to guests as they leave the Shelter and have various needs we can support with them on their journey post the Shelter.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • University graduate or equivalent experience or qualification.
  • Experience and understanding of working with those who are affected by homelessness and other vulnerable adults.
  • Understanding and compassion for those without a home, hope and help.
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector and, ideally, with organisations in the field of homelessness.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, including an ability to motivate and encourage people.
  • Excellent people skills including experience of running teams.
  • Experience of safeguarding, understanding of data protection and ability to handle sensitive personal information.
  • Proven administrative skills, including good written and oral communication, and good computer literacy.
  • Ability to take initiative and work unsupervised.
